I have always thought that art is always an expression of one's inner self despite the declared purpose or message of the piece. I believe a persons experience, teachings, and subconscience determines our actions. It's far beyond what a person feels and thinks, but how their mind works and therefore determines actions. This is what I would define as interiority. So an action as deliberate as Art would have to be a reflection of ones interiority.
